Flipcause alternatives, compared

Looking for a Flipcause alternative?

Flipcause is gone. Its replacement, DONATION Pro, is the same platform under new ownership, still holding your donations before they reach you. Here's what to actually look for in a replacement, and an honest comparison of your options.

What to look for in a Flipcause replacement

Flipcause's collapse wasn't a random outage. It was a structural risk built into how the platform handled money, and that risk exists on any platform built the same way. Before you pick a replacement, check it against these five things.

Own your processor

Flipcause was the merchant of record, meaning donations were paid to Flipcause, then forwarded to nonprofits on Flipcause's schedule. When Flipcause stopped operating, that forwarding stopped too, and roughly $29 million was left sitting with the platform. A replacement should route donations directly to a payment account you own, so no company's solvency stands between a donor's gift and your bank account.

Export everything, anytime

Nonprofits stranded by Flipcause found data exports slow and unreliable once the company began winding down. A replacement platform should let you export your full donor list, donation history, and recurring-giving records as a CSV on demand, not only while the vendor is still healthy.

A real recurring-donor migration path

Recurring donors' stored cards live inside whichever payment system processed them; they can't simply be copied to a new platform. Look for a replacement that gives you a clean recurring-donor export and a plan to re-invite each donor, rather than leaving you to rebuild that list from memory.

Fees you can explain to your board

Compare the all-in cost to your donors, not just an advertised headline rate. A donor-covered fee of 4.9% + $0.30 is a very different number from Stripe's standard 2.9% + $0.30, even if a platform markets the difference as "1.5% effective" because donors are the ones covering it.

*Per software4nonprofits.com/pricing (August 2026). No knock on Software4Nonprofits, a real company that bought a distressed platform. But after watching a merchant-of-record model fail 3,200 nonprofits at once, the safest structure is one where you hold your own payment account, full stop. How to move in 3 steps

Switching platforms after a collapse feels daunting. It usually isn't. Here's the whole process.

Create a free HeartBridge account
1

Export your donor and donation data

Download donors, donation history, and your recurring-giving list as CSV. If your data is stuck on Flipcause, our export guide walks through it, or we'll do it for you free.

2

Connect your own Stripe account to HeartBridge

No new merchant account needed. Connect the Stripe account you already have, or open a new one in minutes, and donations settle directly to your bank.

3

Import your donors and re-invite recurring givers

Upload your CSV into your HeartBridge donor CRM, then send your recurring donors a re-enrollment campaign. HeartBridge's AI can draft that email for you.

Flipcause alternative FAQ

No. Flipcause filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on December 19, 2025, after a California Attorney General cease-and-desist, and the case converted to Chapter 7 liquidation on April 28, 2026. Its technology was sold to Software4Nonprofits in March 2026 and relaunched as DONATION Pro. Flipcause itself is no longer operating.

Recurring donors' stored payment methods lived inside Flipcause's own payment system, so they cannot be transferred directly to a new platform. You export your recurring-donor list as a CSV and re-invite each donor to re-enroll on your new giving page. HeartBridge helps you write that re-enrollment campaign.

Yes, if you pick the right one. HeartBridge connects to your own Stripe account and is never the merchant of record, so donations settle directly to your bank. Platforms that act as merchant of record (including Flipcause and DONATION Pro) hold your funds inside their own ecosystem instead.

HeartBridge's Starter tier is free. Professional is $29/month, and Enterprise pricing is custom. Payment processing runs at Stripe's standard rate of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, with no added platform fee.

Most nonprofits are live on HeartBridge the same day: connect your own Stripe account, import your donor CSV, and your new donation page is ready. Re-inviting recurring donors takes longer since it depends on their response, but the technical switch itself is fast.

Maybe, eventually, and separately from switching platforms. Flipcause withheld roughly $29 million from more than 3,200 nonprofits. Any recovery runs through the Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee and the claims process, not through Software4Nonprofits or DONATION Pro. Document your withheld balances and file a claim; do not wait on that process before moving your giving elsewhere.
