An honest comparison

Looking for a Software4Nonprofits alternative?

$29/month on your own Stripe account, versus $150/month plus 4.9% + 30¢ on theirs. Here's how HeartBridge and Software4Nonprofits' DONATION Pro actually compare on price, fees, and who holds your money.

What is Software4Nonprofits?

Software4Nonprofits is a Canadian company known for fund-accounting and donation software, and it's the company that bought Flipcause's technology out of bankruptcy in March 2026 and relaunched it as DONATION Pro. Per software4nonprofits.com/pricing (August 2026), DONATION Pro costs $150/month, or $125/month billed annually, and processes transactions at 4.9% + $0.30, with donors invited to cover that cost at checkout. Software4Nonprofits reports that over 85% of donors choose to cover the fee, and markets a "1.5% guaranteed effective rate," reconciled quarterly, where they credit the nonprofit the difference if donor-covered fees don't bring net cost down that far.

That's a real, specific pricing structure from an established company, not a marketing vagueness. It's also a materially different model from HeartBridge: a higher subscription, a donor-covered processing fee roughly 2 points above Stripe's standard rate, and a second product line (ACCOUNTS) for fund accounting.

A worked example: $50,000 raised in 500 gifts a year

Same nonprofit, same $50,000 in annual giving, average gift $100. Here's what each platform costs across a year.

HeartBridge Professional DONATION Pro (nonprofit absorbs the fee) DONATION Pro (donor covers the fee)
Annual subscription12 × $29 = $34812 × $150 = $1,80012 × $150 = $1,800
Processing fee2.9% + 30¢ × 500 gifts = $1,6004.9% + 30¢ × 500 gifts = $2,600~1.5% guaranteed effective rate of $50,000 = $750*
Total cost to the nonprofit$1,948$4,400$2,550
Who actually pays the processing feeNonprofit (from its own Stripe account, at cost)NonprofitDonors, at checkout, on top of their gift

*The donor-covers column applies Software4Nonprofits' own marketed 1.5% guaranteed effective rate to estimate net cost after their quarterly reconciliation credit. It assumes the "over 85% of donors cover it" figure holds for this nonprofit; individual results depend on donor behavior. Even in the best case for the nonprofit, HeartBridge on your own Stripe account still comes out lower, and donors on the DONATION Pro columns are paying an extra 4.9% + $0.30 per gift that HeartBridge donors never see.

Software4Nonprofits is a real, established company, and DONATION Pro is a reasonable option for nonprofits that value its ecosystem. This is a comparison of price and platform structure, not a claim about anyone's character.

Who holds your money?

DONATION Pro runs a platform-managed payment flow, the same underlying architecture Flipcause used before its bankruptcy, now under Software4Nonprofits' ownership and management. Donations move through the platform before reaching the nonprofit. HeartBridge is never the merchant of record: your nonprofit connects its own Stripe account, and donations settle directly to your bank. There's no platform in between holding a balance you have to wait on or claim.

Software4Nonprofits is a substantially more established company than Flipcause was, and there's no indication its finances resemble what led to Flipcause's collapse. But the structural question, who is standing between you and your donation, is worth asking of any platform, regardless of how stable that platform currently looks.

Why donor-covered fees still cost something

Software4Nonprofits' "1.5% guaranteed effective rate" is a real, specific claim, not a vague one, and worth taking seriously: if donor-covered fees don't get the nonprofit's net cost that low, they say they credit the difference quarterly. That can genuinely make DONATION Pro's cost to the nonprofit competitive, especially against merchant-of-record platforms that don't reconcile at all.

The other side of it: someone still pays the 4.9% + $0.30, and it's the donor, added on top of their intended gift. A $100 gift becomes roughly $105.20 at checkout if the donor covers the fee. Some donors don't mind, and Software4Nonprofits reports over 85% choose to cover it. But that also means roughly 1 in 7 donors either declines and the nonprofit absorbs the fee that gift, or the ask itself causes some donors to give less or not complete the transaction at all, a cost that shows up as fewer completed gifts rather than as a line item. HeartBridge's 2.9% + $0.30 on your own Stripe account skips that donor-facing decision entirely.

When Software4Nonprofits may be the better fit

Fairness matters here, so a few real reasons Software4Nonprofits could be the right choice for your organization:

Fund accounting via ACCOUNTS

If your nonprofit wants donation data and fund accounting in one vendor's ecosystem, Software4Nonprofits' companion product ACCOUNTS is a real integration advantage HeartBridge doesn't offer today.

Full website builder

DONATION Pro includes a website builder with ongoing updates as part of the subscription. HeartBridge offers an embeddable widget and hosted donation pages, but not a full site builder.

Unlimited concierge support

Software4Nonprofits markets unlimited concierge support as part of the plan, which can matter for organizations without dedicated technical staff.

Longer track record

Software4Nonprofits has operated longer than either Flipcause or HeartBridge, and reports serving more than 8,500 organizations, a legitimate stability consideration for boards that weigh vendor longevity heavily.

Migration path from Software4Nonprofits to HeartBridge

If the price, the transaction fee, or the platform-managed payment flow doesn't work for your board, here's how the move looks.

Create a free HeartBridge account
1

Export from DONATION Pro

Download your donor list, donation history, and recurring-giving records as CSV. Our export guide covers the steps if your data is still on the legacy Flipcause interface.

2

Connect your own Stripe account

Link the Stripe account you already have, or open a new one, so donations settle directly to your bank instead of through a platform-managed flow.

3

Import donors and re-invite recurring givers

Upload your CSV into your HeartBridge donor CRM, then send a re-enrollment email to recurring donors, since their saved cards can't transfer directly.

Software4Nonprofits alternative FAQ

Software4Nonprofits is a Canadian company that sells fundraising and fund-accounting software for nonprofits. Its flagship fundraising product, DONATION Pro, is the relaunch of the Flipcause platform, which Software4Nonprofits bought out of Flipcause's bankruptcy for roughly $400,000 in March 2026. It reports serving more than 8,500 churches and nonprofits.

Per software4nonprofits.com/pricing (August 2026), DONATION Pro is $150 per month, or $125 per month billed annually. On top of the subscription, processing runs 4.9% + $0.30 per transaction, which Software4Nonprofits invites donors to cover at checkout rather than deducting it from the nonprofit's proceeds.

Software4Nonprofits markets a 1.5% guaranteed effective rate, reconciled quarterly: if donor-covered fees don't bring the nonprofit's net cost down to 1.5% of processed volume, they credit the difference. They also state that over 85% of donors choose to cover the fee at checkout. It's a real and specific claim worth taking at face value, but it depends on most donors opting in, and the donor is still the one paying the 4.9% + $0.30 up front.

It's a legitimate one. Software4Nonprofits is an established, separate company from Flipcause, not a distressed startup, and DONATION Pro runs on the Flipcause codebase it acquired. If you want a longer operating history, fund accounting, and a website builder in the same ecosystem, it's worth evaluating alongside HeartBridge.

HeartBridge Professional is $29/month with no annual contract, and donations process on the nonprofit's own Stripe account at Stripe's standard 2.9% + $0.30, with no added platform fee. DONATION Pro is $150/month ($125/month billed annually) plus a 4.9% + $0.30 transaction fee. HeartBridge also offers a free Starter tier; DONATION Pro's published pricing starts at the $150/month tier.

Export your donor list, donation history, and recurring-giving records as CSV from DONATION Pro, connect your own Stripe account to HeartBridge, and import the CSV into your HeartBridge donor CRM. Because DONATION Pro holds recurring donors' payment methods internally, plan to re-invite recurring donors to re-enroll once your new giving page is live.
